Going Less Simple Sugar

https://greatist.com/health/30-sugar-substitutes-any-and-every-possible-situation

The Year 8 Students are looking for options to reduce the amount of sugar in our diet. They are taking a favourite recipe to adapt by using a sweetener option to use that does not effect the success of the final product.

Product making weeks

Over the last two weeks the Cycle 3 Year 8 students have been making the products they had previously designed to fit the individual briefs that had all written. There was an overall criteria they needed to follow but within that they could create a suitable outcome for themselves.
Here are some of the students at work constructing their designs.

Its sushi week.

As part of our edible container week the students made sushi.
The brief was to make two rolls of sushi with a variety of filling. One each of fish, chicken or vegetarian.
Much fun was had by each group using both the traditional mat rolling and then the fancy sushezi machine which constructs a very uniform shaped sushi roll to be pushed out onto the nori sheet.
Here are some photos of the students in action.

Year 7 Students working on their product designs

It has been a very busy week with all the Year 7 Food Technology students completing their product designs. The students worked with a partner to plan an appropriate breakfast for their parents wedding anniversary. The outcomes were many and varied and all looked and tasted very delicious.
Below are some photos of some of the students at work.

Year 7 Food Technology

All the Year 7 students who are at present attending the Food Technology sessions are learning about healthy eating habits and how to balance our diet to get all the nutrients we need each day. We have been examining the food pyramid and how it can help us decide what foods we need to eat regularly for our main meals and which foods we should keep to a minimum and as treats.

Year 8 students starting to work on product design

All the Year 8 students in Food technology are learning about how to design a product to fit into a certain "Product Brief". The brief is made up of two parts. The Concept Statement ( the need or opportunity the needs solving) and the Attributes (properties required for this product to solve the need outlined). The students will be planning and designing and making their own prototypes over the next few weeks. Here are some photos of students in action in the food room.
